NICKEL AND IRON CONCENTRATIONS IN PLANTS FROM MINING AREA POGRADEC, ALBANIA†
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 13 › Nr. 4 AbstractMetal concentrations in plants, soil and sediment were evaluated in the vicinity of a former iron/nickel enriching factory atPogradec, near Ohrid Lake in Albania. Metal levels were significantly higher in soil samples than in the corresponding plants.Iron concentrations in both soil and plants were much higher than the nickel ones. Lower plants (lichens, mosses and fungi) had ahigher uptake and accumulation of nickel, followed by water plants and non-cultivated (wild) plants. Iron levels... AN EXAMPLE OF THE USE OF BIO-INDICATORS FOR AIR QUALITY ASSESSMENT IN AREAS WITH HIGH INDUSTRIAL PRESENCE
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 14 › Nr. 11 Abstract
Air pollution is an increasing critical issue and the focus of innumerable studies and monitoring activities. In addition to
automatic monitoring systems typically used to measure fine dust, ozone, nitrogen oxide and sulfur oxide, the use of
bioaccumulation monitors can also be exploited, especially when monitoring large areas. The advantage of biomarkers is the very
low costs involved compared to traditional monitoring systems. Bio-indicator techniques do not measure directly air q... Autori: Vincenzo Torretta ISSN: 1843 - 3707 http://www.ecozone.ro/reviste.php?RID=26892
THE ROLE OF FOREST STRUCTURE AS A DETERMINANT OF EPIPHYTIC LICHENS WITHIN MANAGED TEMPERATE DECIDUOUS FORESTS (SOUTHERN ROMANIA)
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 19 › Nr. 5 This study shows the impact of tree- and forest-level variables on epiphytic lichens within four managed forest fragments. Additionally, the impact of human activities, such as pastoral activities and timber harvesting, on epiphytic lichens is taken into account. At the tree level, a pertinent ecological pattern with regard to lichen abundance could not be supported by the obtained results because the effect of tree and forest variables (aspect and shrub cover) was significant only on a few lich...
