LEVELS OF METALS AND ORGANOCHLORINE COMPOUNDS IN SEAFOOD CONSUMED IN CLUJ-NAPOCA, ROMANIA
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 11 › Nr. 1 Marine species (n=36) available in a supermarket of Cluj-Napoca city, Romania were collected and analyzed for the levels of heavy metals (Cr, Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb, Hg) and As, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), such as dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and analogous, hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs) and hexachlorobenzene (HCB). The collection included samples from twelve fish groups (sardine, tuna, herring, pangasius, marbled rockcod, hake, shrimp, pink shrimp, lo... POLYMERIC WASTES FROM AUTOMOTIVES AS SECOND RAW MATERIALS FOR LARGE SCALE PRODUCTS
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 12 › Nr. 8 AbstractEfficient large-scale recycling of polymeric wastes for automotives is of increased interest from ecologic and economic point ofview and represents an important goal for the car recycling industry. One alternative is to develop novel composite materials, relying on waste car parts, for indoor or outdoor large-scale applications, without using small molecular plasticizer or otheradditives but insuring a good compatibility for large percentages of thermoset plastics in the composite. MARBLE FILLERS EFFECT ON THE MECHANICAL PERFORMANCE OF A RECYCLED AGGREGATE CONCRETE
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 16 › Nr. 1 The aim of the present work is to investigate the effect of marble waste fillers incorporation on the mechanical properties of Recycled Aggregate Concrete (RAC). The RAC studied mixes were 0, 5, 8 and 10% (by weight of cement) of marble fillers respectively. Direct tests of compressive and flexural strength and non-destructive testing (NDT) (rebound hammer, ultrasonic) were performed. The optimal content of 5% marble fillers showed an improvement for both used test methods (compression, flexion ... POWDERED MARBLE WASTES REUSE FOR CADMIUM REMOVAL FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS UNDER DYNAMIC CONDITIONS
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 17 › Nr. 5 A factorial design analysis was performed in order to determine the significant factors influencing cadmium removal from aqueous solutions by powdered marble wastes (PMW), using a continuous stirring tank reactor (CSTR) system. Investigated factors were initial cadmium aqueous concentration (5-30 mg L-1), PMW dosage (5-15 g L-1) and flow rate (20-40 mL min-1). Results showed that the cadmium aqueous concentration and PMW dosage were the most influencing factors on metal removal from synthetic aq... DIRECT SHEAR PROPERTIES OF LIGHTLY CEMENTED SOIL – POLYSTYRENE BACKFILL MATERIAL
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 17 › Nr. 8 Geocomposite materials consisting of lightly cemented mixtures of expanded polystyrene beads (EPS) and backfill soils are commonly used as fillers and for the construction of light weight embankments. The constant normal stress (CNS) and constant volume (CV) direct shear parameters as well as the relationship between gradation properties of four residual granular backfill soils and direct shear parameters of lightly cemented mixture of EPS and backfill soils was evaluated. The maximum density an... Autori: Felix Okonta ISSN: 1843 - 3707 http://www.ecozone.ro/reviste.php?RID=27771
FREEZING-THAWING BEHAVIOR OF CLAYEY SOILS REINFORCED WITH PINE TREE SAWDUST AND MARBLE DUST
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 19 › Nr. 12 In this study, the change of freeze-thaw test result of unconfined compressive strength of clayey soils reinforced with pine tree sawdust and marble dust was investigated. Mixtures containing 5%, 10% and 15% marble dust and 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% pine tree sawdust were compressed by standard Proctor test with optimum moisture content. After curing the mixture samples for 1, 7 and 28 days at a working room temperature of +21°C, they were subjected to the freeze-thaw test at -21°C, +21°C fo...
