Evaluation of artificial neural network techniques for river flow forecasting
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 6Nr. 1
River runoff forecasting is one of the most complex areas of research in hydrology because of the uncertainty of hydrological and meteorological parameters and scarcity of adequate records. Artificial neural networks (ANN) can be an efficient way of modelling stream flow processes as it is capable of controlling and modelling nonlinear and complex systems and does not require describing the complex nature of the hydrological processes. In this study, daily river flow is forecasted using two ANN ...

Improving energy efficiency in water distribution systems based on water consumption profiling
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 7Nr. 3
AbstractTogether with other public utilities, water supply systems management aims to provide an efficient operation of the system and lower operational costs. In complex water distribution systems there is a large variety of consumers, which differ from one another not only by values of inflows, but also by how this inflows vary from hour to hour. This paper presents a self-organizing based approach to the problem of classification of water consumption profiles from the nodes of a water distrib...

Assessment – all methods used for measuring, reckoning, modeling, forecasting or estimating the presence of a pollutant in the environment. Investigation - the process of identifying the presence of pollutants in the environment, the spatial dispersion of these pollutants, the level of their concentration, as well as the analysis of the environment’s structure. The steps that were follow...

COMPARISON BETWEEN RADAR ESTIMATED AND RAIN GAUGE MEASURED PRECIPITATION IN THE MOLDAVIAN PLATEAU
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 11Nr. 4
Heavy rainfall events have produced significant damages and casualties in the Moldavian Plateau (Romania) in the last decades. Such phenomena are characterized by large spatial and temporal variations, and the forecast of their occurrence is thus very challenging. This study aims to compare the radar estimations and the rain gauge measurements, in order to improve the quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE) in the area of interest. The research uses data from the WSR-98D (Weather Surveillanc...

ENSURING ECONOMICAL AND FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY: STATE FISCAL CONTROL - A WAY TO PREVENT AND REDUCE TAX AVOIDANCE
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 10Nr. 12
Human nature constantly tends to place personal interest first, to the detriment of general interest. In this respect, tax and duty payers have always attempted to evade payments on their tax liabilities, resorting to various tactics, as they view such compulsory payments as detrimental to their wealth and income. On the other hand, the state seeks to maximise its receipts from taxes, duties, excises etc. In Romania, after 1990, an entire range of anti-tax reactions occurred in the sphere of pub...

Abstract This research analyses time series of air temperature and wind speed. Trends and periodical components are defined for both time series with no significant statistical relationship between them. The spectral analysis of temperature series with no trends shows the peak frequency fc = 1/12, corresponding to a seasonal periodical component. The graph of the spectral density function of the wind speed time series does not manifest a seasonal periodic component. Forecasting of ...

TAKAGI-SUGENO ALGORITHM FOR GLOBAL SOLAR IRRADIATION USING AIR TEMPERATURE DATA
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 13Nr. 12
Abstract Air temperature is certainly the most measured surface meteorological parameter and accurate forecasting of air temperature is usually performed worldwide.
