Abstract:
The role of law in a society is to establish limits within which human relations should be conducted to smooth and balanced
necessary to achieve its development. Sustainable development involves actually the development of present activities without
creating discomfort to future generations. The paper approaches the important role of law in maintaining the balance between
human health and the growing development of industries in the world. Law as an instrument of social control in sustainable
development as well as approaching it under the economic, social, cultural and environmental aspect are also issues that have been
analysis of this paper. The work analyses two well-known pollution case studies happened on Romanian territory - Rosia Montana
Project and Tisza River pollution accident, taking into account the new concepts regarding sustainable development programmes
they generated. Principles underlying sustainable development, the European Union instruments used to implement environmental
policies and environment action programs were other investigated subjects. The aim of this work is to highlight the importance of
law in limiting environmental imbalances and empowering the human factor in relation to it.
